Just wanted to share my Mom's e-mail regarding her harrowing experience at Glorietta the other day. I thank the Lord that my Mom was not hurt. Everyone knows that I am a big Mama's girl and I feel very fortunate that nothing happened to her. I feel terrible though for the families of the people who lost their lives on that day (the death toll is 5 I think). The news report said it was due to an LPG explosion at a restaurant.
Here's her email:
Dearest Family and Friends,
My officemates and I had a scary experience this noon break. We treated ourselves to a buffet lunch at Hard Rock Cafe in Glorietta mall as a going away treat for us since we were going to relocate our office to Pasay City which is a far cry from the country's premier business district where we currently work.
On the way back to office, while on board the escalator, we heard a loud blast. I was stunned as I watched the ceiling of the floor below me collapse like domino tiles and orange plastic pipes started to fall too. I saw the sales girls from the collapsed stores running for their lives. I was thinking someone must have been killed down there. I was stunned and stood still on the moving escalator until my friend Milette hugged me and shouted, "RUN!". It jolted me and made me realize that the floor in which we were in could also collapse. I grabbed her hand and ran as fast as I could to Landmark department store which is connected to the mall we came from. My heart was pounding. Our other friends got separated from us but we all made ourway safely back to office on foot.
I'm still stunned. The mall where the blast occured is where I usually do my noontime walks and I am usually in the area, walking back to work at the time the blast occurred. I thank God for keeping me and my friends safe from harm. We all felt sad having to relocate to another area and now we will be leaving Makati with a blast (literally) and with an experience we will never forget.
